This has been another busy week in DC. I have watched more webinars about AI including AI Threats from the Staff Academy. They briefed offices about what could be used within guidelines and how to request other tools for clearance. It is interesting to see what is being cleared for governmental use, which is not much. I had a great constituent meeting with New Mexico teachers and school leaders. It was fun to talk education in the midst of the governmental stuff! They have some great programs with STEM focused outdoor learning and more. I am working on STEAM connections to the local community in New Mexico. These can be replicated in all communities across the US and beyond. I will sharing this work soon! Friday we had our First Friday meeting with the fellows. This time is for us to learn from each other. Jorge and Jess led a discussion about STEM and nonfiction books. If you know me, you know I ADORE books. I may have hoarded the examples but who can blame me when they were so good! Check the pictures below for a partial list. We had great discussions and shared ideas for getting more reading in STEM. Then we gathered at a nearby restaurant to catch up and commiserate. My weekend was spent cleaning and recharging. I worked on my STEAM and Literacy presentation for the New Mexico Science Teacher’s Association conference. I will be posting the materials with my presentation on October 19. I am excited to head out to New Mexico on Saturday! Monday it was back to Capitol Hill for appropriations training. That is how money is budgeted and spent … more confusing words and abbreviations. Is it weird I’m starting to understand it all? Tuesday more work on my visit and conference and more AI learning. I also got to spend time in a constituent call with New Mexico’s finest. I got to hear about their wins, questions, and how they hope to make positive changes in the state and nation. I learned one of the gentleman has a daughter in law who teaches in Clemson, SC! And I got great food recommendations for the trip! Then Wednesday I attended a briefing on challenges of attendance and webinars about NGSS from NSTA and AI Foundations from AI for Educators. Today I attended a Congressional Research Service training on budgets. I had a cheap delicious meal at the Library of Congress Madison Cafe. Then I joined my Capitol Hill fellows on a backstage tour of the Capitol Building. Stories and advice from a long time member of the staff. Love the insider info! Check out the perfect one 2.0 enjoying a box. I told her mama she needs to ship her to me...both of them would be better. Also watched UFC to see Wonderboy a fighter from Greenville, SC. I am so excited to get to explore New Mexico and the STEM education they have at multiple organizations around town. And see the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta! And White Sands National Park! Oh to learn and play again! Enjoy the pictures and tell me your favorite New Mexico places and foods! |
